Hortis at BGANZ

In 2019, a working group from the Botanic Gardens of Australia and New Zealand, BCARM (BGANZ Collections And Records Management group) and the BGANZ Council embarked on a tender process to find a suitable plant records management system to provide to member gardens.

The objective of the project was to be able to give members access to a plant records management solution that is robust, reliable, secure and accessible, with optimised performance to meet the current and future needs and demands of regional botanic gardens.

Hortis was selected as the preferred plant records system and, since 2020, we have been welcoming new members to the Hortis community. Our first users were part of the BGANZ Victoria / “Growing Victoria’s Botanic Gardens” Grants program, and we are now working with more BGANZ gardens across Australia and New Zealand.

Moving to Hortis: Cairns Botanic Gardens’ story

“Accurate record-keeping is something that all Botanic Gardens are supposed to do, but recently we haven’t been doing it effectively because of this lack of a suitable package—so it’s a big step forward for us.”
